Hello...

Thank you all so very much for your kind thoughts and words about our loss of Benson.  I am still rather overwhelmed with it and am coping with it far less well than I ever would have expected.

I can't bear to look at his picture yet, but seeing his sister dog was OK was a help.  She isn't herself, but she wasn't as distraught as I feared she might be so that is good.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you and I felt the need, or want, to blog, but I don't really have anything to say.  I thought that if I sat at the computer and started to write something might come, but it isn't.  So I will go and get on with some work.  Thank goodness for work.  I have done quite a bit of working over the last few days to keep myself occupied.

I just went to see if I could find a quote from one of the Rosamunde Pilcher books about being worried and polishing the silver, because at the end of the day, you are still worried, but the silver is clean.

I have been like that.  Still upset, but at least I have got some work done.  Couldn't find that quote/excerpt, but I did find this quote though.

“It was good, and nothing good is truly lost. It stays part of a person, becomes part of their character. So part of you goes everywhere with me. And part of me is yours, forever”
Rosamunde Pilcher, The Shell Seekers

It has bought the greatest lump to my throat and I am holding back the tears, but it says it all.

Sorry about this.  I just had to write it and share it.  I will try blogging again in a few days.  In the meantime, I will keep on working and I will see if I can find that excerpt from the book.

No podcast this week, I don't think I can face it and I don't think you would want to look at me either.  We will save each other from that.

Thank you all again so very very much.  I cannot say what your kindness means, only that it means so very much and touches my heart greatly.

See you all again soon.  I hope that all is well with you.

Five On Friday

Please forgive me, but as the organiser of Five On Friday I occasionally take a liberty with my posts and I am doing that today.

I have had a horrid week.  My brother in love dog, Benson, died yesterday just short of his 12th birthday.

Benson was a wonderful dog.  I know that all pets are wonderful - they really are - but Benson was special.  He suffered from a lot of illnesses from birth and had many operations, took daily medication and had lots of difficulties to overcome.

Despite all that Benson never let anything get him down.  He had the nicest most placid kindest and loving personality of any person or animal that I have ever met.  I realise that I sound biased, and I am!, but his doggy sister, although a wonderful dog, doesn't have the things that Benson had so I don't think I am overstating this.

We will all miss Benson more than I can describe to you.  Benson just knew.  He knew everything.  I think because of his own difficulties he could somehow empathise in a doggy way with others difficulties.  I learned a lot about keeping going from Benson, and trust me, that is something that I need to do sometimes.

Benson wasn't my own dog, but he was as close as he could have been to being mine.

There have been other problems too this week with issues related to Man who is being less than pleasant about us trying to help him.  That is all quite upsetting.

Added to that I have been having horrid dreams and much broken sleep as well.

So sorry that I haven't been round visiting or blogging properly.  I have noticed that there has been a lot less traffic coming by here recently so I do apologise for not getting round if that is the reason you haven't stopped by here.  Or perhaps you are just busy with summery things and your own life.  Or it could be that I have just been a bit boring!

Anyway, I am sorry that I haven't been by.  Give me a few days, it is our bank holiday weekend this weekend - long weekend - so after that I hope to be a bit more refreshed and will be round visiting even if I am not up to much blogging for a little bit.

Benson, you won't read my blog, you didn't even know it existed, but I love you and will miss more than I can say.  I will be waiting to see you again one day.  Thank you for loving us all so much.

I hope you all have a good weekend.

Go and love on your pets!

Silver...

More treasures from the Museum of Fine Art, Boston.  Real treasure this time.  Silver!  Hope you enjoy seeing it.  I know that I did.

I believe that this portrait is of Paul Revere.  He was, as you will read below a very important Bostonian Silversmith.

These are some examples of Revere's exquisite workmanship.

The details are amazing aren't they.

I love the combination of detail and simplicity of the shapes.

These pieces below are not by Revere but were still lovely and interesting to see!

One of the things that I wanted to see at the museum was Paul Revere's work and I am so glad that I got to see it.

When looking through for these photos I realised just how many more I still have to share with you, so more posts will be upcoming!

Podcast Episode 6 - Yarn Talk

Wow, another podcast recorded and uploaded.  It took over 14 hours to upload this yesterday.  Yes, 14 hours, over 14!!!!!

Yikes...

Anyway, it is uploaded now and ready to view and that is the most important thing isn't it!

In this weeks episode I talk quite a lot about different yarn weights and how to use them, what effect they give and also what the differences are between the names of the types of yarn in different countries.

I hope that you will keep enjoying watching the podcast and the things that I am sharing!  Just a reminder next week will be a day later than usual.

Also, I forgot to mention in the podcast - which is quite important!! - I am having a sale on all garlands in my Etsy shop.  They are now 50% off and the price shown is the reduced price, the original price is in the description.  Offer lasts until 31st May 2016 and after that date these items will no longer be available in my shop, so this is the last chance to get them!  You can find my shop here.

Thank you for watching and for your continued support, I really do appreciate it!

Weekending

Good Morning!  It is sunny and bright here today with blue sky and quite a few clouds that are generally whiter than grey.

Which is a change from the weekend when it was mostly grey and rained more of the time than it was dry.  Not a weekend to be out and about in the garden.

So instead we stayed in and did a few things that we needed to finish up.

I worked on some pattern drafting which ended up taking most of Saturday.  It will be a job well done when it is finished, but it took a long time!

In the evening I finished up this shawl - which needs to be blocked and the ends sewn in.  I have shown it briefly in the podcast episode I recorded this morning.  When the pattern is written I will share more.

I was glad to get it done though as I had a couple of false starts with this one.

I also sewed in the ends on this basket and finished it up.  It is now for sale in my Etsy shop.  I also started another one!  The pattern is available here.

On Sunday I spent most of the day working on my Happy Scrappy Squares Blanket which I am loving.  I added 19 more blocks.  I have decided that this will be my Sunday project and I will only work on this on Sunday and it will be the only crochet that I work on on that day.  Unless I also do some on my hexi blanket!!

What was Hubby doing all weekend while I was working and crocheting.  Well, he wasn't sitting around twiddling his thumbs.  He was dealing with this lot.

He stripped all of the all tiles off the laundry room walls and has started to retile.  It looks really great so far and I am very pleased with the tiles that we chose.  I will show you more when it is done.

This is the last "big job" to get done in this house after we moved in over a decade ago.  We have been round the rest of the house and done all sorts from rewiring to new windows, wallpaper scraping and new kitchen and bathroom to name but a few.  This was the last area that needed attention and now it is done.

Of course it is now time to start going around again and getting things refreshed in other areas, but it will be so good to have this finished.  It looks so much better already not having the tiles that were here before.  I have to say I would rather that the previous owner had just left the brick than their tile choice, but they are gone now and that is what is important isn't it.

So that was our weekend.  Being homebodies, but getting lots done so that is all good.

I hope that you had a good weekend and that you will have a good week too!

I am joining with Karen at Pumpkin Sunrise to share what I did this weekend.  Do go and stop by and see what Karen got up to and the others who are sharing too.

Five On Friday

Hello, and welcome once again to Five On Friday!!

It is great to see you here, thank you so much for joining in and for stopping by.

Five On Friday is open to anyone who wants to take part, you don't have to be special, or invited to join in.  Just read the information at the bottom of this post and as long as you stick the "rules" such as they are you are welcome to take part.  We would all love to welcome you!

As I wrote earlier in the week, you are my tribe and I am glad to be part of yours!

Speaking of that post about tribes, sadly no, it wasn't any of the posts you suggested, I went and had a look around again at various blogs.  I should have said, it was something I came across when poking around and was on a blog that I don't normally read - which is why I can't remember which one it was!  Thank you so much though for the suggestions.

Thank you too for your kind words on that post.  I am glad that we have found each other and that you are too!  It is good to have people to connect with in different ways isn't it!

I like to mix up my posts with a bit of writing at the start some weeks and at the end on other weeks.  So today the round up of the last seven days is at the start of the post.

Beginning with last Friday, well, that turned out to be a disaster for me as I wrote about on Saturday.  My knee is healing though, and I have a lovely bruise to show for my efforts as well as the big gash, but it is healing and that is all good.

There has been some further fall out from our family meeting on Saturday in so far as Man is very unhappy, but sadly, what has to be has to be.

In case you didn't read my round up post after the meeting, I wanted to say thank you again to those who sent good thoughts and other good things our way.  I am sure that it helped a great deal and I am very thankful to you and for you all!

Sunday was a lovely day, I met up with a friend to go for a long - over 10K steps - walk.  We had a great time, I will show you some pictures in a bit.

Monday was podcast recording day.  Thank you so much to those of you who watch and comment and like and all of those other good things.  There is a podcast group on Ravelry if you want to join in - search for lovemademyhome in the groups tab.

I also released the pattern for my Beth Shawl on Monday.  I was so nervous I cannot tell you!!  There are pictures below if you are interested in seeing more and a link in the sidebar under Patterns and Tutorials if you want to know the story behind the design.

On Wednesday gosh, it rained like crazy here.  We had some very wet visitors at work.  I have to say that I am glad I work inside not outdoors when the weather is like that.

Yesterday was an adventure out to The Range, Dunelm Mill and Lidl with a friend of mine - we know how to live!  It was good to get out though after a morning of working!!

That is my week, busy, not too exciting, but not too too terrible either so that can't be bad can it.  So now I better get on with my five things to share!

One

As I said I met up with a friend to go for a long walk.  We met at Polesdon Lacey which is about halfway between us and walked and talked for several hours.  It was so good to see her as it has been ages since we met up.

The weather was beautiful as you can see.  Blue skies, some clouds, but just the right temperature and perfectly dry.  You couldn't have asked for better in fact.

We went up and down and round and round and thoroughly enjoyed it.  We will go again!

Two

One evening this week I spotted this hot air balloon flying over our house.   It was very far away, but I still managed to get some pictures.  The photo below is cropped and so is the one above.  My camera did a good job of photographing it though and it was lovely to see it flying overhead - well, drifting really!

Three

There have been lots of flowers in my life this week.  These lilies are coming out in the kitchen.

With some beautiful alstromeria on the sideboard.  There are also lots of wonderful flowers in the garden.  It is so good to be surrounded by such beauty at the moment.

Four

I have been doing a little fiddling in the house, but haven't had time for much.  My needlefelted hare and his foxy friend are happy hanging out beside this mirror.

When I was sorting out my yarn bins I found these hearts buried in one - no idea why! - so they are now hanging up and looking pretty.

Five

Crochet!  I thought that because I am showing my crochet more on my podcast now, if you are a blog reader only you might think I had abandoned it.  Well fear not, I haven't!

This is a little round up of recently finished things as well as some of what I have on the go right now.

I made up this bag out of my own head - no pattern will be coming!  I have yet to find a use for it, but it was a good use of the yarn which is Patons Smoothie.

There is a solid base and a pair of handles for holding it.  Overall a good piece of work.  Even if it doesn't have a purpose!

Next up the Beth Shawl that I mentioned earlier.  If you go back to Mondays post you can find out more information and get pattern details and so on.

I wore it again yesterday and my friend that I went out with said that some people might be scared that it is hard to make, but it really isn't.  You work it a bit at a time and then join it on, so don't be put off!

Next up are two things that are the same, but in different colours.  Sorry that I can't share more with you right now, but they are for a design I am working on.  More to come though!

I can tell you about this though!  It is my happy scrappy squares blanket from Sandra at Cherry Heart's pattern.  I am really enjoying this and looking forward to doing some more at the weekend.

The last crochet thing I have for this week is this basket which I have just finished and which is now in my Etsy shop.  I have some more yarn to make more and am looking forward to getting those finished over the next week.

Then I must get on and use some of this yarn rather than just using it as photograph props!!

That is it for this week!  Days out, balloon spotting, flowers, decorating and crochet!

Thank you once again for joining Five On Friday, for visiting other people taking part and for your lovely comments to me too.  We all appreciate it a great deal!

I wish you all a good weekend filled with great things!

See you next Friday if not before.

Amy
